Insulation Services

Attic Insulation

Your attic is often the most cost-effective place to make energy improvements to your home. It’s also a place where Silverfish, Lady Asian Beetles, Wasps, and Spiders will try to nest in the winter. Treating these areas with pesticides is typically not effective because you can’t penetrate down into the insulation. We have an EPA-labeled pest control cellulose insulation product we use to solve these issues.

Chem-Tech will evaluate your attic to see if your insulation is adequate, and if any other issues need addressed, such as venting. We then make recommendations and provide you with an estimate for those services. We install cellulose insulation that is pest resistant, mold resistant, fire resistant, and outperforms fiberglass.

There is more to our process than just adding more insulation. We make sure soffits have vent chutes and blocking, bathroom fans have exhaust piping, and determine if attic fans are needed or if installed, are in good working order, which are essential for your home to perform properly.

Statistics for those that like to do things themselves: The machines at the big box store will blow in about 250 lbs. of insulation material an hour. Our equipment blows it in at a rate of about 3000 lbs. an hour.

Basement & Crawlspace Encapsulation

Most homeowners think of their crawl space as a place they don’t want to go. This is mainly because of all the pests that may be in there. What you may not realize is how much air leaks in through the rim joist of your crawl space and up through your home. In the building science world, this is called the stack effect. Air that leaks in, goes up and out through the roof.

We already noted above that the attic is the best place to start in making your home energy efficient. Your crawlspace is next. We start by installing a liner over the ground surface of the crawlspace. We then spray closed cell foam insulation on the exterior walls spanning from the liner to the bottom of your subfloor, providing an air and vapor barrier by fully encapsulating the crawl space.

This results in a major difference in the amount of air that leaks through your home, especially through exterior walls and windows and reducing the stack effect. Other great benefits include sealing out pests year-round and lowering humidity levels in the home during the summer. For those cold winter months, it means warmer floors, and it prevents pipes from freezing. For crawl spaces that have ductwork or HVAC systems in them, it improves their capability to perform efficiently as possible.
