Why Recurring Pest Control Makes Sense

One of the most common questions we hear is: “Why do I need pest control year-round?”

It’s a fair question. A lot of people assume pest control is something you only need when you see bugs—or that once winter arrives, the bugs simply disappear.

Unfortunately, that’s not how pests work.

At Chem-Tech Termite & Pest Control, we’ve been controlling pests in the Leavenworth and Kansas City area for decades, and one thing we’ve learned is that preventing a pest problem is almost always easier than trying to eliminate one after it has become established.

Bugs Don’t Disappear in the Winter

When the temperature drops, insects don’t simply die or leave. Many of them look for a protected place to spend the winter.

And your home is a pretty good place to do it.

Stink bugs, boxelder bugs and Asian lady beetles are good examples. These insects often enter cracks, gaps, siding, soffits and other protected areas of homes in the fall, where they spend the winter as adults.

That’s why, when we experience those random 60-degree days in January and suddenly people start seeing bugs crawling around their windows.

They didn’t just show up.

They were already there.

Recurring exterior pest control helps reduce the number of pests that make it into your home in the first place.

Pest Control Works Better Before You See the Bugs

Many homeowners wait until they have a pest problem before calling a pest control company.

We look at it differently.

The best pest control happens before the pest gets inside.

By regularly treating the exterior of your home, we’re creating a barrier where insects live, travel and attempt to enter the structure.

That means less pesticide needs to be applied inside your home.

After the initial service, our recurring pest control program is designed around primarily treating the exterior of the home. If we’re doing our job outside, there should be very little reason to continually apply pesticides throughout the inside of your house.

Why We Service Every 60 Days

There’s a reason our recurring program is built around a 60-day service interval.

Many professional pest control products provide residual control for roughly 60 to 90 days, depending on the product, weather, surface and environmental conditions.

Waiting too long between treatments can allow that protective barrier to break down.

Servicing approximately every 60 days allows us to maintain that protection instead of constantly starting over after pests have already returned.

Think of it more like maintaining your home than reacting to an emergency.

Different Seasons Bring Different Pests

Pest pressure changes throughout the year.

Spring brings increased insect activity as temperatures rise.

Summer heat can drive spiders and other pests out of attics, wall voids and other areas of the home. This is also when insect populations are generally at their highest.

Fall is when many overwintering pests begin searching for protected areas to survive the colder months.

Winter doesn’t mean pest activity stops. It simply changes.

A year-round pest control program allows us to adjust what we’re doing based on the season and the pest pressure around your home.

One-Time Pest Control vs. Recurring Pest Control

One-time service reacts to a pest problem. Recurring pest control helps prevent the next one.

Over time, consistent treatments help reduce pest populations around the property and maintain control instead of repeatedly allowing populations to rebuild.

Fewer Bugs. Less Pesticide Inside Your Home.

Some people assume recurring pest control means applying more pesticide.

In many cases, it’s actually the opposite.

By maintaining protection around the exterior of your home, we can reduce the need for repeated interior treatments.

Our goal isn’t to continually spray inside your house.

Our goal is to keep the pests from getting inside in the first place.

Pest Control Is About Maintenance

You change the oil in your vehicle before the engine fails.

You maintain your HVAC system before it quits on the hottest day of summer.

Pest control isn’t much different.

Waiting until ants are covering the kitchen counter, spiders are appearing throughout the house or overwintering insects are crawling across the windows means the problem is already established.

Recurring pest control helps keep small pest problems from becoming big ones.

At Chem-Tech Termite & Pest Control, our goal is simple: maintain control around your home year-round so you can spend less time worrying about what’s crawling around inside it.

That’s why recurring pest control makes sense.
